Recommended Post-Operative Rehabilitation Aids

1. Custom Knee Brace
This brace is ideally measured prior to surgery. It is to be used for all weight bearing activities for the first 6 months post-surgery, and all pivoting activities for at least 1 year.

2. Knee Cooling Cuff or DJ Ortho Iceman Cryotherapy System (optional)
Used for compression cold therapy. A proven method to accelerate recovery after surgery. Recommended for home use for 4 weeks after surgery.

3. Compression Socks 20-30 mmHg (optional) – Please note: due to hygienic reasons, these socks cannot be refunded.
Gradient compression stockings are to be worn during the day to help blood in your veins flow in the right direction – back towards your heart. They are used to help control edema and prevent blood clots after surgery. It is recommended to have someone accompany you to the store fitting that is willing to aid in the application and removal of the socks both at the hospital and at home. They are fitted prior to surgery and brought to the hospital.

4. Crutches
Used to assist with mobility after surgery. Do not bring them to the hospital prior to surgery however you can have them available for discharge.

5. Opsite Surgical Dressing
To be used after 48 hours once tensor and gauze have been removed. The dressing is to be placed over top of steristrips to protect area and allow for showering. To be changed as necessary to keep wound clean and dry for 10 days. The client is to pick up 3 dressings.

They are used to help control edema and prevent blood clots after surgery. It is recommended to have someone accompany you to the store fitting that is willing to aid in the application and removal of socks both at the hospital and at home. They are fitted prior to surgery and are brought to the hospital.
Warning: compression socks are contraindicated for arterial insufficiency. If you have arterial insufficiency, please ignore the recommendation for compression socks.

Used to apply compression cold therapy. Apply for 15 – 20 minutes to control pain and swelling. It should be purchased prior to surgery. Recommended for home use for 2-3 weeks after surgery.

3. EZ Mend Slider
A device used to help in the performance of passive range of motion exercises post surgery. It is recommended to help decrease the formation of scar tissue and to help promote healing to the surgical site and increase blood flow to your legs.

4. Aquacel AG Surgical Dressing (30 cm)
Is a soft, comfortable waterproof antimicrobial dressing that flexes with the skin during body movement. It is safe for showering and decreases the chance of infection. The initial dressing will be provided by RVH. It is recommended to purchase an additional dressing at OrthoHealth to be used before staple removal if the dressing provided by RVH becomes saturated or after staple removal for showering.
